Becoming a Counselor-in-Training (CIT)

At Morse Hill, many of our camp counselors were once Counselors-in-Training! The path to participating in our summer camp activities as a CIT begins with registration in our Adventure Education Training course.

This course is a full-week experience that includes instruction and the path to certification in CPR/First Aid and Lifeguarding. Campers who are 15 and older can receive Red Cross certifications in these areas. In addition, AET participants learn Morse Hill skills such as rock climbing and mountain biking as well as begin learning how to safely belay ropes course participants. Our AET course comprises a full week including overnights.

After successful completion of AET, participants may apply to be a CIT for two weeks of summer camp during the same summer.

We ask that participants complete two years in our AET course; after successful completion the second year, participants may apply to be a CIT for an additional two weeks of camp.

Registration for AET opens at the same time as our other camp offerings.

Applying to become a Counselor-in-Training (CIT)

After registering for our AET course, campers are asked to complete a CIT application ahead of the summer. The application process asks participants to obtain two references from non-family members. In addition, CIT applicants will be asked to give their preferences for CIT weeks. CIT weeks are assigned in May, once we’ve received all of our applicants’ completed forms. The base cost for a CIT week is $175 for 2026.

The process of applying to become a CIT is great practice for teens looking ahead to their first job application!
